“Human Events, the supposedly conservative tabloid out of Washington, just censored–butchered really– the latest column by Pat Buchanan, which it carries. But Buchanan was not notified. A reader who gets the column by internet like me, accidentally compared it to the version on the “Human Events” web site. There were substantial omissions which made the usually erudite Pat Buchanan seem incoherent.
Linda Muller, who manages the Buchanan.Org web site was notified. The paper would not take her call nor would their web site post any criticism. So she posted their bastardized version along side the original version on the web.
Back in 1991, when Pat was beginning his campaign to challenge George HW Bush in the Republican primaries, the Federal Elections Commission told him he would have to give up his personal newsletter “From the Right.” Pat turned the newsletter over to “Human Events” which he described as the ‘venerable conservative weekly.’
Which brings us to the matter at hand. In a column entitled “The Poodle Gets Kicked”, Buchanan was ridiculing VP Joe Biden’s recent trip to Israel where he got blindsided by the Israeli announcement of more illegal Israeli apartments being built in Arab East Jerusalem. This was a designed provocation aimed at both Palestinians AND Americans.
This also comes at a time when Admiral Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and General Petraeus, head of the CENTCOM command, are warning that actions of the Israeli State are endangering US troops. Plus, the top military brass don’t want to be pushed by the Neo-Cons and their Israeli patrons into a catastrophic war with Iran.
Pat was witty in his column, making fun of Biden who had always been a faithful lapdog for the Israel Lobby, frequently proclaiming himself to be a Zionist.
But Buchanan went further. He wrote of events well-known in the rest of the world but can’t be mentioned out loud in this country. Specifically, Pat mentioned nuclear fuel being stolen out of Pennsylvania to develop the Israel H-Bombs, the killing by the Israelis of 37 US sailors aboard the USS Liberty back in 1973, the Jonathan Pollard spy case, and so on.
Pat Buchanan also mentioned AIPAC which should be registered as the lobby of a foreign country, Israel, but isn’t. AIPAC totally cows an already creepy Congress. Maybe less than a dozen members are free of its influence.
Well, “Human Events” took the scissors to Pat’s column and cut any mention of nuclear theft, Pollard, USS Liberty and even AIPAC. Reportedly they have been in financial difficulty for some time. Now we know how they’re being bailed out. Maybe “Human Events” should move their staff into the building housing both THE WEEKLY STANDARD and the misnamed ‘American Enterprise Institute.’ Those institutions are the flagships of the Neo-Con Cabal.
“Human Events” R.I.P.
